We recently interviewed one of our wonderful business and retail trainers Wendy and here’s what she had to say.
What do you like most about being a trainer at Cartec Training?
“I love that each day is different! Even when I get to class with the same students they are in a different mood or things are changing due to covid or anything else in their lives (school ball, jobs etc) I love seeing the students succeed and complete their training and for some this may be the first time they have succeeded at anything.”
What has been your biggest training success to date?
“I had a homeless young man complete his training course, against all odds and with all the stress and anxiety in his life at the time, he was unable to attend class or complete presentations in front of the class but we found a way so he could still meet the requirements. I had another student who had very low self esteem and had been asked to leave previous courses, she completed her first certificate course and was so proud of her achievement.”
What is your favourite qualification to teach and why?
“Work based trainees I prefer the Retail qualifications; I am passionate about giving good service to customers and can see the students working with customers and give them feedback and suggestions. For the Cert IV as it is more of a managerial role I like to see and guide students on their interactions with staff as well. I try to instil in them that they are only as good as their team and a team is only as good as its leader!”
What do you like doing when you are not training?
“When Im not training, I am either playing golf or spending time with my family. I have 2 sons 20 and 18 both of whom have businesses which my husband and I help in any ways we can, administration, marketing or practically when needed. Most of my family are in New Zealand but I have a nephew and his family close by and an Uncle and Auntie and their family who we catch up with regularly.”
